The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Committee will advise the HR/EEO Specialist in the development and dissemination of the EEO/Affirmative Action Plan.
The EEO Committee will consist of five members appointed by the Mayor and City Council with input from the EEO Director. Members will consist of the EEO Director (Chairperson), one management employee, two union employees and a department head. The management and union employees will represent different departments within the City. Department heads will vary, depending in which department the alleged act occurs. A list of the EEO Committee members shall be posted in the Municipal Building and in each department away from the Municipal Building, in a site that is conspicuous to all employees.
The composition of the committee should represent the various basis groups protected under the affirmative action plan (i.e., race, color, creed, sex, age, national origin, religion and disability). The terms of the EEO Committee members will run for two years; one member will be appointed one year and the other two members will be appointed the next year. The Committee will meet quarterly (every three months) to discuss problems and make suggestions for possible training.
The Committee shall function as an extension of the EEO/AA Office. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Providing information to employees regarding the City's Affirmative Action Plan.

Monitoring and providing feedback to the EEO/AA Officer regarding affirmative action program progress.

Advising the EEO/AA Officer of situations of concern.

Reviewing policies and practices of the EEO Office that pertain to or have impact upon the affirmative action program and make recommendations for change.

Recommending activities (can be innovative and creative) within the City in consultation with the EEO/AA Officer to provoke interest in, provide information about and commitment to the affirmative action program.

Recommending training needs in the areas of equal opportunity, affirmative action, human relations and etc. to the EEO/AA Officer.
