Public Works

The purpose of the Department of Public Works is to coordinate the activities of various divisions that maintain and improve the city's infrastructure.
This infrastructure includes:

     Water Mains
     Fire Hydrants
     Sanitary Sewers
     Storm Sewers
     Streets
     Alleys
     Street Signs
     Traffic Signs
     Traffic Signals

Through this website, we hope to keep the public informed on ongoing projects and alert them to changes in routes and schedules.

The Department of Public Works is made up of several divisions:

Electrical Responsible for the maintenance and repair of street lights, maintenance of the traffic signal system and electrical wiring in City buildings.
   
Equipment Maintenance Responsible for preventative maintenance on City-owned vehicles and equipment.
   
Sanitation Responsible for the collection and disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste, brush and leaves.
   
Streets Responsible for all street maintenance including street sweeping, street patching, snow and ice removal, dust control and pothole repair.
   
Traffic Safety Maintains over 12,000 street and traffic signs.  Responsible for painting all lane lines, lane indication markings, School Crossings and railroad crossings on over 160 miles of city streets.
   

Utility Systems                    

Water Meter

Responsible for all underground infrastructure, maintenance and replacement of fire hydrants and valves, water main flushing, repairs and maintenance of storm and sanitary sewers.

Responsible for installation, repair, and maintenance of residential and commercial water meter equipment, identifies water leaks, water pressure issues, irregular water meter readings, and perform locates.
